From May 20 to 30, 2025, Instituto Atlântico carried out a strategic international mission to Canada, participating in two of the most important technology events in North America: the Upper Bound AI Conference in Edmonton and Web Summit Vancouver, in British Columbia. The mission, supported by the Consulate General of Canada in São Paulo, aimed to foster international partnerships, connect with leading innovation ecosystems, and promote Atlântico’s expertise in artificial intelligence, applied technology, and open innovation.

Expanding international collaboration

The delegation was composed of Albert Schilling Gomes (Commercial Director), Cupertino Freitas (International Market Manager), Andre Bezerra (Program Manager), and Cleilton Lima Rocha (AI Platform Lead). Their presence marked a key step forward in consolidating the institution's internationalization strategy.

According to Albert Schilling, this experience reaffirmed how international expansion increases the organization’s impact. He highlighted the welcoming environment of Canadian institutions and expressed confidence in the future of these new relationships.

Artificial intelligence and strategic connections in Alberta

In Edmonton, the delegation took part in the Upper Bound AI Conference, organized by the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii). The event focused on the latest applications of AI and featured discussions with experts, researchers, and innovation leaders from Canada and Brazil.

Atlântico also visited the University of Alberta, where it advanced conversations around potential applied research collaborations. At Edmonton Unlimited, the team presented the PRAIA open innovation program and explored partnership models.

Notable meetings included interactions with AI expert Joshua Pantony, Dr. Anderson Soares (UFG/Embrapii CEIA), and Patricia Garcia, a key figure in B2B connections in Canada. The team also visited Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation (API), where they learned about ongoing biotech initiatives, and explored sustainability strategies at Edmonton International Airport.

International partnerships and innovation at Web Summit Vancouver

In the second phase of the trip, the delegation participated in Web Summit Vancouver 2025, which brought together over 15,000 professionals from around the world. Atlântico engaged in exclusive meetings with investors, government representatives, and innovation organizations, highlighting its capabilities and exploring paths for future cooperation.

Cupertino Freitas emphasized Canada’s role as a strategic innovation hub and the strong alignment between Canadian and Brazilian innovation priorities. He noted that the team is returning with a concrete agenda of potential partnerships that could evolve into impactful international projects.

Strategic meetings and future opportunities

Among the highlights of the mission was a meeting with the HP-Teradici team to discuss collaboration on research and development initiatives, supported by mechanisms like Brazil’s Lei de Informática and Embrapii.

The delegation also met with representatives from Invest Ontario, Invest Vancouver, and the JEDI program (Ministry of Economic Development of British Columbia), reinforcing Atlântico’s positioning with investment and innovation promotion agencies.

The mission concluded with a visit to the University of British Columbia (UBC), where the delegation explored cooperation in fields such as quantum computing, research fellowships, and technical exchange programs. Discussions are already underway regarding the potential signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize this partnership.

A new chapter in Atlântico’s global journey

This mission marks an important milestone in Instituto Atlântico’s journey toward internationalization. By strengthening connections with Canada’s innovation ecosystem and sharing its technological expertise, Atlântico reaffirms its commitment to positioning Brazil as a key player in the development of global, high-impact technology solutions.
